Shah Alam, 13 March 2023 – Worldwide Holdings Berhad (“Worldwide Holdings”) today signed four Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore collaboration in the development of solar energy projects in Selangor. The signing of the MOUs that are expected to further promote smart energy solutions and renewable energy (RE) in Selangor were witnessed by the Selangor State Secretary, Yang Berhormat Dato’Haji Haris Kassim in a ceremony held at Glenmarie Hotel & Golf Resort.
The first two MoUs signed during the ceremony were related to the development of an independent power plant project that generates energy from a floating solar farm in Cyberjaya lake, which will then be distributed to off-takers that consist of private companies looking to further establish their commitment to clean energy and sustainability. The project that is commissioned under the Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP), an initiative by the Energy Commission that provides opportunity to business entities to participate in the promotion and use of renewable energy in their business operation, aims to elevate Cyberjaya’s brand and reputation as a digital business hub that offers reliable and green energy solutions.
The project that will be developed with a cost of approximately RM100 million will be spearheaded by a Consortium consisting of Worldwide Holdings, Dynac Sdn Bhd and Majulia Sdn Bhd. Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria, Group Chief Executive Officer of Worldwide Holdings signed the first related MOU on behalf of the Consortium with the signatories from Cyberview Sdn. Bhd., the primary technology hub enabler of Cyberjaya that plays a pivotal role of supporting and driving economic prosperity and sustainable liveability of the digital business hub through technology and innovation, and the other MOU with the signatories from the project’s off-takers, Cyberview Sdn Bhd, Wistron Technology (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Berhad, Global Energy Storage Malaysia, and PKNS Real Estate Sdn Bhd.
At the same ceremony, Worldwide Holdings further established its commitment and role as the driver of green energy and sustainable development for the state of Selangor through the signing of two more MOUs that will see the conglomerate spearheading the installation of solar PV panels at state government and residential buildings. The MOUs signed are with PKNS Real Estate Sdn. Bhd. for the development of self-consumption solar investments and Laman Seri Business Park Management Body for Net Energy Metering (NEM) solar investments and rooftop leasing agreement, respectively.
Dato’ Haji Harris said, “These projects that are in line with the national development agenda and the ‘Smart Selangor Blueprint’ will contribute to Malaysia’s efforts to reduce CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030 and reduce the state’s carbon footprint. They also reinforce Selangor’s commitment towards sustainability and green energy.”
“The signing of these MOUs with these various companies is a testament of Worldwide Holdings’ ability to spearhead significant energy infrastructure projects, especially in relation to the promotion of renewable energy, considering that our active participation in the energy business only began in 2018,” adds Datin Paduka Norazlina.
With Malaysia’s favourable climate for solar energy and the strong governments support, Worldwide Holdings look forward to contributing towards the growth and development of renewable energy and green technologies in Malaysia and Selangor and meeting the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
