Project Details
Hydro power is one significant commitment for environmentally friendly power in Malaysia. Small hydro is the advancement of hydroelectric force on a scale serving a little local area or mechanical plant. The definition of a small hydro project fluctuates, but a generating capacity of 1 to 20 megawatts (MW) is generally accepted, which aligns to the concept of distributed generation.
Small Hydro Plant (SHP) project poses a much more feasible approach as oppose to the traditional dam constructions. Not only does the project has less carbon footprint and after construction, SHP also does not disturb the surrounding community and ecosystem due to the flooding process of the area that is usually associated with large hydro dams. The run-off river concept captures a portion of the river that will be used to generate power before it is released back into the river stream.
WHB involvement of such projects is laid out in smaller streams of water in the Selangor region. The benefit of such small-scale projects is that it does not pose such an environmental impact thus keeping the surrounding ecosystem with much undisturbed as possible by safeguarding the water resources from any kind of pollution.
